    Future Use

The land owned by Yankee Atomic Electric Company (Yankee Atomic) is located in the towns of Rowe and Monroe, in the northwest corner of Franklin County, Massachusetts.

The former Yankee Atomic power plant has been fully decommissioned and the plant site remediated. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has released all of the land except approximately two acres. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has issued draft approval of the Final Phase II – Comprehensive Site Assessment Report. Once final, this represents the final approval necessary to achieve site closure under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan.

Yankee Atomic has authorized an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to identify organizations and entities interested in acquiring all or a portion of the approximately 1,735 acres in Rowe and the approximately 93 additional acres in Monroe, Massachusetts. This process is being administered by Vita Nuova, LLC.

This EOI process will solicit submittals from experienced, financially sound, and capable organizations. Yankee Atomic seeks submittals from interested developers, non-profits and other organizations.

The EOI process will begin in January, 2009. Interested organizations will receive a packet of information and have an opportunity to tour the property. Respondents will be asked to demonstrate their financial viability, qualifications, and land use interests.
