Overview

An important initial step in the site closure process is to conduct a thorough inventory of the site itself.

Yankee Atomic Electric Company owns approximately 1,800 acres in Rowe, Massachusetts, with 12 of these acres accommodating the former nuclear power plant. Most of the remainder of the site is hilly, deciduous woodland flanked by the Deerfield River.

The site investigation process has two components. The first is a survey of the entire property, including its physical and cultural characteristics. The second involves a broad spectrum of environmental testing to make sure that we have properly investigated the site and adequately scoped any potential remediation efforts.

Both of these processes are largely complete.
