This section of the website includes historical information about the Site Closure Project as a whole and provides additional background information for individuals unfamiliar with the Yankee Rowe site. Reading the documents within this section provide a snapshot of the historical operations, procedures and processes used at the Yankee Rowe site to support the of site closure process. The most recent information can be reviewed at the Site Closure Project Information Repository, located at the Greenfield Community College in Greenfield MA.

A. Stakeholder Communication and Outreach
- Site Closure Project Brochure [.pdf]
- Early in the site closure process, the company published a four-page Site Closure Project Brochure
that described its stakeholder outreach process, as well as the objectives, procedures and desired outcomes of the Site Closure and Decommissioning Project.
This informative brochure is also available for review at the Site Closure Information Repository.
B. Site Closure Project Plan

This document was utilized by Yankee as the basic blueprint to support the site clean up and closure process. It describes the principles that guided this process including the previously completed site examination, analysis and risk management activities, as well as the necessary regulatory reviews and approvals.
C. Site Definition
- Archaeological Reconnaissance Survey and Archaeological Resources Management Plan [.pdf] -- November 2003
This survey and management plan catalogues potential archeological and cultural resources of the Yankee Rowe site, and provides guidelines for long-term stewardship. Both documents comply with guidelines developed by the Massachusetts Historical Commission.

Natural Resources Inventory and Management Plan [.pdf] -- April 2004
The Natural Resources Inventory and Management Plan is a comprehensive assessment of the natural resources that characterize the 1,800 acres of property that make up the Yankee Rowe site. A key component of this historical assessment was landscape analysis, a process where key information about the natural resources and land use history of the area were reviewed to document the ecological setting and integrity of the site. This then allowed Yankee to identify areas that might contain unique environmental conditions or rare species. The landscape analysis was followed by field investigations documenting natural community characteristics, wildlife and forest resources.
D. Site Characterization
- Baseline Environmental Report [.pdf] -- April 30, 2004 (SCY 2004-05)
The historical Baseline Environmental Report provided a general understanding of the physical characteristics of the Yankee Rowe site, an overview of the environmental conditions, a summary of Yankee Atomic Electric Company’s operations on site and a description of decommissioning efforts that had been completed prior to 2004. This Baseline Report supplemented the Site Closure Project Plan.

This historical status report provided an update to stakeholders on the progress of assessment of the environmental quality of the soil, groundwater and sediment at the Yankee Rowe site. This report describes assessments completed between June 2003 and March 2004, and was the first phase of the site-wide characterization program described in the Baseline Environmental Report released in May 2004. It supplemented investigations conducted to satisfy applicable state and federal regulatory requirements.

Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) - Revision Three [.pdf] -- December 2005
This historical plan is intended as a generic program document applicable to site-specific Site Closure Investigations at the Yankee site. This plan formed the basic framework for historical Site Closure Investigations. The QAPP included investigation procedures, sampling methods, analytical methods, sample management, documentation procedures, and quality assurance review procedures utilized to support site specific investigations.

ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessment [.pdf] -- February 2006
The purpose of this historical environmental assessment was to provide an independent, professional opinion about recognized environmental conditions at the Yankee Rowe property.
